February 9, 2010 Posted by in Social Media, Success Stories | 1 comment

The term “user generated content” is one of the most buzzed about concepts to evolve from today’s social media era.

As you likely know, user generated content is anything – ideas, photos, text, etc. – created and shared by end users. Of course, user generated content comes with serious marketing benefits. Fans develop a sense of ownership in the brand and, hey, that content is free to use by you, the marketer.

Titus Cycles, based in Tempe, Ariz., is currently reaping the benefits of user generated content through their “Titus for Life” tattoo contest on Facebook. (We previewed the promotion here.)

Fans can show their passion for Titus Cycles by designing – and agreeing to receive – a Titus tattoo somewhere on their body. The best tattoo will win a 2010 FTM Carbon mountain bike valued at $5,500. Fans not willing to commit to a tattoo are encouraged to rate and share their favorite tattoo submissions with friends.

In less than a month, fans have responded to the promotion in the following ways:

  • 100 unique tattoo designs submitted
  • 4,000 votes and comments
  • 3,000 new fans – more than tripling the brand’s fan count!

Meanwhile, the best of the user generated content is posted in weekly photo albums – carrying the conversation into fans’ news feeds and inspiring over 3,000 photo views.

The Titus for Life promotion is hosted on the Titus fan page using Bulbstorm’s Fan Ideas application for Facebook. Fan Ideas gives brands, such as Titus Cycles, an edge over the competition.
